DENVER (KDVR) — Thousands of customers in southern Aurora were without power throughout the day Wednesday, according to Xcel Energy, and thousands could still be without power until morning.
The outage began at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to an Xcel Energy spokesperson, with nearly 4,000 customers initially without power.
Xcel said the outage was because of a third party whose drill damaged Xcel’s equipment. The service provider said crews have been “working around the clock to repair damage,” and have reduced the outage to about 2,000 customers.
However, crews are anticipated to continue working throughout the night and possibly into the morning to ensure power is fully restored to customers.
The area impacted by the outage includes Hilltop Inspiration, a 55 and older community.
