Shaboozey is addressing all the chatter after side eyeing Megan Moroney.
ICYMI, the Bar Song (Tipsy) singer appeared at the American Music Awards on Monday night alongside Megan to present the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group. And when she credited the Carter Family as the group who “basically invented country music,” Shaboozey couldn’t help but respond with a MASSIVE side eye. Watch (below):

On Tuesday, the 30-year-old took to Instagram to defend Megan from haters:
“Just want to clear something up: my reaction at the AMAs had nothing to do with Megan Moroney! She’s an incredibly talented, hard-working artist who’s doing amazing things for country music and I’ve got nothing but respect for her. I’ve seen some hateful comments directed at her today, and that’s not what this moment was about. Let’s not twist the message — she is amazing and someone who represents the country community in the highest light!

Earlier in the day, Shaboozey hopped on X (Twitter) to share some thoughts on the “true” origins of country music. He wrote:

While the Carter Family were some of the first commercially successful country artists, the genre can be traced back far before their fame and recognition to Black artists like Lesley Riddle and Duford Black in the early 1900s.
