Crown to appeal sentencing for Freedom Convoy organizer Pat King

A key leader of the 2022 Freedom Convoy is expected to have his sentence appealed.

Pat King was put under a three-month house arrest in February, but his sentence is now being appealed.

He made the announcement alongside his lawyer during a live appearance on social media Wednesday night.

CBC News has confirmed the decision is expected to be appealed.

In November, King was convicted in Ontario Superior Court on five criminal charges: mischief, counselling to commit mischief, counselling to obstruct a public or peace officer, and two counts of disobeying a court order. He was found not guilty on three counts of intimidation and one count of obstructing police.

Crown prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence, the maximum penalty for mischief.

Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland found King “personally led a large convoy” and was an “active participant” with supporters in disrupting Ottawa services and bringing the “core of the city to a standstill” in January and February 2022.
