What started as a normal morning with family shouldn’t end with police at your doorstep—but one Washington family says that’s exactly what happened. A quiet evening turned into a terrifying ordeal when a DoorDash delivery led to a dangerous confrontation! Thanks to the quick actions of a grandfather named Anthony Volino, the family was ultimately unharmed.

The DoorDash Driver Did What?!
Last Thursday, Anthony Volino of Vancouver, Washington, told KGW News that he was having breakfast with his grandchildren when a man showed up at his daughter’s door. The uninvited guest claimed to be the same DoorDash driver who had delivered her groceries the night before. Though the family had already tipped through the app, the man was now demanding a cash tip, and things escalated fast.
“He was pretty loud,” Volino said, adding that the driver smelled like “alcohol.”
Additionally, the grandfather claims the deliveryman said, “I want my tip.” Volino also claims he considered giving the driver a few dollars, but eventually demanded that he leave.
More Details On The Incident
The suspect, identified as Robert Delehant, allegedly won’t leave, even after Volino’s daughter explained that the tip was paid digitally. Volino apparently stepped outside to confront Delehant, and a scuffle broke out. That’s when Volino noticed something alarming: a handgun on the man’s waistband.
“He tripped up against my wife’s car,” Volino told reporters. “As he was on the ground…I leaned over and I cleared the handgun.”
Vancouver Police responded to the incident shortly after it was reported. Delehant was arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including felony harassment, DUI, and assault. No one was injured during the incident, reports said.
A DoorDash spokesperson said the company has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment. In a statement, they said: “What happened was unacceptable and the Dasher involved was immediately deactivated.”
DoorDash Previously Warned Customers About Tipping
In 2023, DoorDash issued a warning to customers that not tipping could lead to delays with their orders. The Shade Room previously reported that when customers tried to place an order without leaving a tip, the app triggered a message. The warning allegedly stated, “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered—are you sure you want to continue?”
The prompt reminded users that drivers can choose which orders they accept, and those without tips may sit longer before being picked up. Meanwhile, customers could still move forward without a tip or adjust the amount before ordering. That update came years after the platform overhauled its driver pay model in 2019. It moved to ditch a “tipped wage” structure in favor of a base pay system that gives Dashers 100% of customer tips.
